Ruby's Ramblings

Episode 93

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!

Oh what a month it has been already, and it is not even over yet! I, Ruby, have been in Florida with EVM Linda and Red Baron because not only has the weather been beautiful, but there is ALWAYS something going on for Red Hatters in the Sunshine State. I have been in purple and red most of the month! (By the way, rumors of my kidnapping on April 1 were completely groundless – it was an April Fool’s joke and I loved it!!!)

So… I have been to a murder mystery/birthday celebration with Queen Joyce Selvaggio’s Damsels, lunch at the beach with Queen Cathy Rickel’s Regal Red Hatters, burgers at a Tiki “spot” with Baroness Bobbi Johnson’s Babes From Joyland (one of EVM’s chapters), to a royal coronation with The Sun Coast Queen Bees and Marilyn Waltz of The West Coast Queen’s Council (I think I got all of this straight???), a 100th birthday celebration for Red Hatter, Lucy Brands in Clearwater (she’s in 3 chapters!), and “HATS’ in Tampa with Queen Nancy Manning and The Steel Magnolias (EVM is in this chapter too.) This doesn’t even count the huge celebration in The Villages on our REAL birthday! I think that I might have to take a cruise or something after all of this. I am having the time of my life!

Back to “HATS”! I have seen it a few times, and as you all know, I starred in the opening production in Denver (OK, modesty is not always my strong suit). It just keeps getting better and better, though I have NEVER seen a performance that wasn’t great! I find myself humming the tunes all the time – this week it was “The Older the Fiddle, the Sweeter the Tune”. Just couldn’t get it out of my mind. It was a real “hoot” to see myself portrayed in the Tampa production. I was darn good –ha! I got to meet the cast and have my photo taken with them. I also spent a bit of time with the actress who plays yours truly, and she GETS IT – ME!

Oh. I have to tell you about the sweet thing that Red Baron did, just for me, and in celebration of our (RHS) birthday. He builds and flies radio-controlled airplanes (he’s not the Red Baron for nothing). He also crashes them, but that’s another story. He surprised me with one that is red and purple and he has found a little likeness of me to put in the pilot’s seat. We’re still thinking of a name for the plane – perhaps after its first flight it will come to us. I am planning to be there for take-off, and hopefully safe landing, in just a few days when it is ready. I usually don’t have a problem being too big to find a seat in an airplane, but this one – is different. I’ll let you know how I fly!

What a ride it’s been – ten unbelievable years and still going strong. Even EQM Sue Ellen and EVM Linda don’t know it, but I WAS there at the beginning; they just didn’t SEE me right away. They had to get the “spirit” and then they found ME!

Sing with me please:

Happy Birthday to us!
Happy Birthday to us!
Happy Birthday all my sisters
Happy Birthday to us!!

Have a wonderful Red Hat Day – wherever you are – and then just keep on celebrating!
