Dr. Seuss and The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins was the theme of the parade in Brandon, Mississippi. The Sweet and Sassy Magnolia Belles (of Brandon) had fun decorating the Christmas tree on their float with little red hats and feathers in honor of Bartholomew.
Up in Reno, Nevada, the Red Apple Tarts (Reno/Sparks) sponsored a gathering of representatives from several chapters to face the blustery cold wind while participating in the First Annual Downtown Christmas Parade. Roxi, Empress of Emails and Vice-Queen of the chapter says that their noses, red from the cold, matched their hats, but they had a great time anyway. The chapter is part of a larger chapter, actually a Queens’ Council, in Northern Nevada. All of the members pass along their wishes to all Red Hat Society members for a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The Richardson Red Hatters (Richardson, Texas), joined by the Queens of the Dallas Red Hat Flashes, and the Dazzling Dames (Plano), got very creative with their parade’s theme of “Christmas Around the World.” They dressed Cabbage Patch dolls in native costumes of various countries and played “It’s a Small, Small World” on their red van. “Uncle Sam” sat on the front, and a Texan cowboy sat at the back. Of course they won first place!
The Jonesboro Piney Puff Red Hatters (Jonesboro, Louisiana) managed to win first and second place in their golf cart parade (also themed “Christmas Around the World”). Queen Betty Womack and Charlene Vail won first place with their Hawaiian-theme and chapterettes Janet Quarles and Ruthie Dark nabbed second by featuring the whole world on their golf cart.
Chapterette Llama Mama brought her llama, Precious, sporting a red hat, boa, purple scarf and purple harness to the Dallas, Georgia Christmas parade. Queen Gaudy and December Duchess also accepted a lovely ribbon won by their chapter’s (A Little on the Gaudy Side) accompanying float.
A red truck and a pink Cadillac carried chapterettes of the Delta County Radiant Reds (and Pinkie Pearls) to victory (they won an award for Best Vehicle) in their city parade. According to Princess Pinkie Hollie this experience was only the beginning to a really wonderful weekend. On Sunday they got together again with several brand new members. Hollie says, “As names (titles) were decided, we heard about each one and how their lives have changed through the years. We learned that with God, family and friends that there is nothing that can’t be achieved. Our two hours turned into a four hour celebration of food, fellowship, and friends (and some great gifts).” The best part about their story is this: their chapter is only about a month old!
