Queen Patti Jones (High Plains Purple Pizzazz - Cheyenne, Wyoming) says that the last Saturday of every month is “Red Hat Coffee Day” in her neck of the woods. Ladies from all local chapters have a standing invitation to drop by for coffee and chatting. Sometimes there are only 2 or 3; other times will find 20 or more ladies happily gabbing. On July 28, the 13 ladies present were approached by a professional photographer, in town to cover the world-famous Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. He said they were far too colorful to ignore and took several shots! A group of 13 Red Hatters (representing 9 chapters) who initially made contact on the QMB decided to gather together in person (and call themselves the Tea Tramps)! Even though they hail from 3 states (Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama), they are close enough to do this; so they have been enjoying each other’s company on a regular basis for a while now. On Saturday, June 23, they welcomed “Sparkling Rose” (QMB name) from McKinney, Texas for a visit. The titled ladies present: Red Hat Avon Lady, Jet, Diamond Queen Maureen, Cat Mama, Duchess Saundra, Pearls Jean, Tootles, Pink Hat Flasher, Tupper, Madame Butterfly, Bama Queen Glenda, and Bama Princess. Another group of QMB friends (who also refer to themselves as Tea Tramps) representing several chapters in southern California, gathers bi-weekly for a “Meet & Munch.” Recently they used the occasion to help celebrate Queen Kathy’s (Red Hat Fan Club) new job. Here they are, “toasting” each other with dessert plates. (The fifth Red Hatter on the right is “LadyDiREDHat” from Hatquarters. She is also Queen of the MZ-TEA-Rious Ladies and TEA TRAMPS chapters, in nearby Long Beach.) Vice-Queen Sandy Sunshine (California Dreamers – Vista, California) enjoyed a jolly good visit with Queen Lilly (AKA Janet Jones) and her Devon Dumplings when she paid a visit to Bideford, Devon, England. The elements tried to rain on their parade, but they merely moved the gathering indoors. Most RHS chapters already constitute fashion shows - just by wearing their regalia - but some enjoy putting on real fashion shows to entertain themselves. “Auntie Judy” Sly (Ruby’s Ramblers - San Antonio, Texas) sent photos of Red Hatters from various chapters who put on a pre-game dinner and fashion show before attending a Silver Stars WNBA game. Five Red Hatters, who are season ticket holders for the team’s games, were invited onto the court to receive official WNBA basketballs. After the game, they were treated to a tour of the San Antonio Spurs locker room in the same facility. In Mountain Home, Arkansas, the Rolling Meadows Red Larks hosted a fashion show. Queen Shirley Lavender describes a few of the outfits: a print dress made from newspaper print, a T-shirt (with tea bags sewn on it), “petal” pushers (knee pants with flowers sewn on them), a cotton dress, covered with cotton balls and accessorized with Q-tip earrings, etc. Get any ideas for new regalia? The Crazy Dolls (Geneva, Ohio) get together weekly to make porcelain dolls and work on other creative projects. Here’s a photo of some of their dolls (with their dogs) to share with the rest of you. Apparently the dolls – and the dogs! - have their own RHS chapter! How many Cardinal C’s does it take to fill an elevator? (Answer below.) When the Cardinal C’s (Colorful, Classy and Creative) chapter (Abbotsford, BC, Canada) cruised to Alaska, they were joined by members from other cities in the Eastern Fraser Valley and Victoria. The 30 women hired a big red bus to get them to the ship – and proceeded to have “an amazing time.” On the last day they wore their PJs to breakfast in the main dining room, then paraded through the entire ship to find and greet the waiters who had served their tables in the evenings. Oh yes – the answer to the question at the beginning of the paragraph: 9. You just never know where you’ll run into “an old friend.” Queen Mother Regina (Brookville Kats in Red Hats, Brookville, Pennsylvania) and chapterette Christeen Maihle attended the Pittsburgh Food & Cooking Expo and encountered the great laughter expert, Dr. Maxine Harper (AKA Joanne Augenstein). If you aren’t familiar with Dr. Maxine, check out the RHS store for her DVD. She’ll make you laugh “’til the tears run down your legs.” |
